How do you decide on your subject matter?

Often influenced/inspired by simple things my artwork has almost any subject matter. Other artist's and artwork's as well, and art history and architecture seem to be a significant influence in what I do. For example, I've thought seriousely about just copying other artists and signing my own name, if I was talented enough.
