Hi Hope everyone knows me by now. My name is Frank Shifreen. Live in New York, in an area called Noho, right next to Soho. I am an artist curator and teacher. I have shown my paintings, sculpture, made videos, created scenic design for off-off- Broadway productions. etc. I am also a curator and organizer of art exhibitions. I organized my first major art exhibition a couple years out of art school in 1981. It was run by myself and a small committee of other artists. Kay Larson of New York Magazine called it "the Event of the Season" saying it was a more important than New York/New Wave at PS 1. which was itself a landmark exhibition. I will post a copy on a site (There is one on my absolutearts.com portfolio site). I am not just trying to blow my own horn. I believe in the power of artist networks to support each other and develop work and ideas. The way the art world has been commercialized in New York is terrible. It is possible for a small group of artists to do great things.
A member of this site was touting the agora gallery, here in New York . That is a vanity gallery and has a terrible reputation. Artists, historians and critics give artist groups the benefit of the doubt.
I have done these shows many times and I think it is an undervalued way of achieving artistic success.
I am finishing my doctorate at Columbia University. This is my area of research and know it well

Hi Everyone,
I have enjoyed being part of the many Ning art sites and this is one of the best. I love to view all the different works you display and comment as time permits, but wanted to say that your works are being viewed by many [including me]
I am an artist, disabled so I am at home & work on my art from home, doing paintings, illustrations and digital art. I started learning to do my own printing as well and occasionally print for other artists as well, in small quantities where a commecial printer may not be able to meet their needs.
My main display website is www.avehurleyillustrations.com but I am rarely there since Ning sites became my home.
I am also a lifestyle Christian that is into learning about spiritual matters and understanding things that delve deeper into the bible and world events. Although I am not churchy or preachy, there are alot of things people can learn from one another so I set up a Ning for that www.xcobu4jesus.ning.com that anyone is invited to come and see. I display my religious type paintings there and share my thoughts on spiritual matters that are open for discussion, so if anyone wants to check it out you are invited to do so.

As artists we are each a bit unique and our lifestyles do influence our art so that too is something worth sharing but not necessarily for the mainline forum groups since I wouldnt wish to offend any of my artist friends.
